Over the last few years, more and more companies have started to report on their circular economy strategy, initiatives, and performance. For the 49.000 biggest companies in Europe, this will become mandatory in 2024 as a result of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) of the European Commission, which will enforce among others a reporting standard on “Circular Economy & Resource Use” (the European Sustainability Reporting Standard E5 or ESRS E5). As a result, many companies in Europe will have to develop new corporate strategies, face data gaps, and introduce new tools and processes to their organisation.
